UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. In the context of funding of the Government of Canada, UN Women will implement a five-year program on Women’s Political Participation in Nigeria, in partnership with the Government of Canada. The project will seek to increase women’s full and effective political participation and representation by; promoting legislative reforms that ensure women’s fair access to political life; strengthening the skills of women to run successful electoral campaigns; and training elected women leaders to be effective legislators and to champion issues of gender equality. The project will support women political actors and women’s civil society organizations across Nigeria. UN Women will recruit a Programme Specialist to support overall for coordination of the project implementation. Reporting to UN Women Deputy Representative, the political participation Programme Specialist exercises overall responsibility for planning, implementing, and managing UN Women’s program on Women’s Political Participation in Nigeria and all UN Women’s interventions on women’s political participation and leadership in Nigeria. She/he works in close collaboration with the programme and operations teams, UN Women staff at the regional and headquarters levels, Government officials, multi and bi-lateral donors and civil society ensuring successful UN Women programme implementation under the Women’s Political Participation portfolio. Duties and Responsibilities | |
1. Design and develop programmes on Women’s Political Participation
2. Manage the implementation and management of the Women’s Political Participation Portfolio
3. Manage technical assistance and capacity development of programme partners
4. Manage the implementation of programme activities through monitoring and reporting
5. Manage the people and financial resources of the Women’s Political Participation Program
6. Build partnerships and support in developing resource mobilization strategies
7. Contribute to inter-agency coordination to achieve a coherent and aligned presence for the Women’s Political Participation area
8. Manage advocacy, knowledge building and communication efforts
