Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has described as unlawful the double registration for permanent Voters Card by the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
Speaking to Sundiata Post Wednesday on the double registration by the governor, the INEC Director, Voter Education, Publicity, Gender & CSO Liaison, Mr. Oluwole Osaze –Uzzi , said that double registration is unlawful.
Osaze Uzzi said that once any individual has registered before and has relocated, all that is required is to apply to INEC for transfer of PVC not to register again. According to him, it is unlawful to register twice.
The governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello is pictured in his office registering as a voter for the second time, having registered before in Abuja.
According to Premium Times, spokesperson to Governor Yahaya Bello, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo who did not deny the double registration by his boss, however said it was not illegal.
Kingsley said the governor had to register again in Kogi because nothing had come of efforts to get INEC to transfer his voter’s card from Abuja to Kogi. He added that the governor has to be registered in the Government House to woo others to go and register adding that nothing was wrong registering the governor in the Government House as it belongs to all Kogites.
A group, Kogi For Change in a statement signed by its Chairman, Omeiza Yakubu, said it would take legal action in view of the illegality of Mr. Bello’s action and also criticized INEC for registering Mr. Bello in his office, a place not designated for that purpose, the statement added.
However, the INEC Director did not respond to our correspondent on what efforts the Commission is making to ensure that all application for transfer of PVC are attended to in good time before his phone line went off.
