Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district at the National Assembly, Comrade Senator Shehu Sani has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to reciprocate the honour of special invitation by the International Criminal Court (ICC) by obeying all hanging court orders.
Shehu Sani who described it as a pride “that our President is accorded the singular honour of a special invitation by the ICC”, however charges Buhari to justify such honour.
The Comrade Senator tasks the President when he took to his twitter handle @ShehuSani and said:
Sundiata Post recalls that the International Criminal court (ICC), on Monday invited President Muhammadu Buhari to address it and share his thoughts on impunity, war crimes, crimes against humanity, cases of genocide and possible ways to prevent them.
The Special Adviser (Media) to Mr. President, Femi Adesina had in a statement in Abuja, disclosed that Buhari is the only president invited to grace the occasion.
According to him, “Nigeria will be at the center-stage of global attention as President Muhammadu Buhari addresses the International Criminal Court, Tuesday, July 17, 2018.
“The Nigerian leader is the only President invited to grace the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the ICC Rome Statute.
“President Buhari will share his thoughts on the values and ideals of the Court, which was established to prevent impunity, and try cases of genocide, war crimes, aggression, and crimes against humanity”, Adesina said.
However, PDP has disagreed with Adesina over the invitation of Buhari. The party said that contrary to effort by the Presidency to present the invitation as positive for the Buhari-led government, the administration has a lot of questions to answer.
PDP in a statement said, the fact that President Buhari is the only President invited to the event showed that the world is alarmed by the spate of blood-letting, extra-judicial executions, illegal arrests, arbitrary detention and torture going on in Nigeria.
Stressing that what the Presidency seeks to hide from Nigerians is that the ICC Rome Statute deals directly with critical issues of crime against humanity, which is already prevalent in Nigeria under President Buhari’s watch.
