Lagos – Samsung Nigeria said on Tuesday that it was conferred the Best Company in youth-focused Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Brovo Kim, the Managing Director of Samsung Electronics West Africa and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
NAN reports that the development came up at the concluded Nigeria CSR Awards 2015.
According to the statement, its Corporate Citizenship Manager, Mrs Abosede Alimi, was recognised as one of the top three CSR practitioners in the country.
It said that the awards were the major force behind galvanising businesses across sectors and industries in Nigeria.
The statement said that it was out to promote CSR and sustainability aimed at acknowledging corporate entities who invested in society through CSR programmes.
It quoted Kim as saying, “We are humbled by this recognition but by the same token, we understand that the task ahead is even bigger.
“We need to rise to the challenge and provide apt and innovative partnerships that will set Nigeria on the path to attaining the Sustainable Development Goals.”
The statement said that Samsung Electronics West Africa was among several businesses assessed by a jury made up of experts drawn from Nigeria and other parts of the world.
It added that the jury based its assessment on the outcome of field visits and verification of data.
The statement said that as the Best Company in Youth Focused Award, Samsung was lauded for its sterling work and contribution to the lives of the Nigerian youths through some programmes.
The programmes include Samsung Engineering Academy, which trained 118 young people, 40 per cent of which are gainfully employed as a result of the training received.

It added the Digital Village located in Cross River, had a significant number of young people who would potentially benefit from the project, especially the Solar Powered Internet Schools.
The statement said that Samsung was nominated in a total of three categories. They are Best Company in Youth Focused CSR, Best Company in CSR Innovation and Most Improved Company in CSR 2015.
It said that Alimi, while receiving the awards noted that the accolade represented a vote of confidence in the company’s efforts to positively impact the lives of people, particularly the youths.
The statement said that its goal had always been to address the felt-needs of the communities it operated in and this recognition would go a long way in inspiring the team to do more.
It said that it would help the company to ensure that it changed the course of Nigeria through sustainable corporate citizenship programmes. (NAN)
