Dutse – Sen. Abdullahi Muhammad (APC) representing Jigawa Northwest Senatorial District, is to sponsor 36 youths in his constituency to acquire skills for self reliance, his Personal Assistant, Alhaji Munir Uba, has said.
Uba told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Tuesday that the sponsorship would cost the lawmaker over N5 million.
He said that three beneficiaries would be selected from each of the 12 local government areas in the district.
The personal assistant added that the youth would undergo a six-month training on different income-generating trades.
According to him, the beneficiaries would at the end of the training be given starter kits to establish their own businesses.
Uba noted that the gesture was part of the senator’s efforts to enhance the economic well being of people at the grassroots.
The sponsorship, he said, was also to reduce unemployment and restiveness among youths in the area.
The senator’s aide said the programme would help to equip the trainees with the technical knowledge of setting up their own businesses, become self-reliant and also become employers of labour.
