Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Senate on Thursday ordered the Police to vacate the siege of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly with immediate effect.
Sundiata Post recalls that the Akwa Ibom State Assembly has been under siege for more than 24 hour now.
Recall that yesterday, it was reported that the after the police’s siege of the Assembly yesterday, lawmakers numbering about 5 allegedly impeached the Speaker of the House of the Assembly.
It was alleged today at the floor of the senate that the intention of the police siege is to further pave the way for the impeachment of the state governor, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel.
Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-East district, Senator Basey Akpan who came through order 42 and 52 condemned the alleged impeachment of the Speaker of the House of Assembly and raised the alarm that the continued siege of Akwa Ibom House of Assembly by the police is aimed at further impeaching the governor. He therefore called on the National Assembly to order the police to vacate the Assembly premises immediately.
