Lagos – SIFAX Group, a multinational corporation with diverse interests in maritime, aviation, haulage & logistics, oil & gas and hospitality, has backed the establishment of the African Maritime Journalists Association (AMJA).
This is contained in a congratulatory message made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Lagos by the Corporate Affairs Manager of Sifax, Mr Muyiwa Akande.
The message was sent to the association’s new executive team led by the Publisher, Shipping Position Daily, Mr Sesan Onileimo,
The Group Executive Vice Chairman, SIFAX Group, Dr Taiwo Afolabi, noted that the continent-wide media association should champion the cause of partnership among stakeholders in the industry.
“The formation of the association could not have come at a better time,’’ the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quotes the company as saying.
Afolabi said, “The maritime industry in Africa and its players are at a period where they need to explore the strength that comes from
partnership and cooperation.’’
“This is in order to fulfill the potential of the industry and improve the continent’s contributions to the global trade.
“I believe this partnership has started with this new association and it is our sincere belief that the association will further advance the interests of the industry and all its stakeholders.’’ he said.
According to him, as an organisation, SIFAX Group will continue to support the media and its practitioners because of the critical developmental roles they play in the society.

The vice chairman said the company would be willing to partner with the association in a mutually beneficial relationship for the ultimate upliftment of the continent’s maritime industry.
Afolabi, who lauded the quality of the new executive members, drawn from Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and Kenya, challenged the new association and its members to come up with various intervention ideas that could further improve the fortune of the industry.
