Lagos – The Media Officer of Sunshine FC, Akure, Wahab Bankole, on Friday said the strained relationship between
the clubs coach, Samson Unuanel and the Technical Director, was responsible for their sack.
Bankole made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
NAN reports that the management of the Akure-based club had announced the sack of Unuanel and the Technical Director, Henry Abiodun, in a statement on Thursday.
Bankole said that the decision to relieve the coach and the technical director of their duties was made after all efforts to bring both parties to sheathe their swords failed.
“We have held series of meetings with both parties in the interest of the club, but it seems they were not ready, so we are left with no option than to let them go.
“The strained relationship between them has greatly affected the overall performance of the team and we have contacted them about this issue.
“The management also had a meeting with all the stakeholders of the team, including the representative of the government and the players.
“The decision is not a sole responsibility of the management of the team but a joint decision between it and the representative of the government,’’ he said.
Bankole also said that the decision to sack the coach and the technical director would not affect the players because they were part of the decision after a wide consultation.
“The players were part of the decision before the coach was sacked, we called them to a meeting and informed them on the need to get result and move the club forward.
