TAIPEI – Taiwanese Premier Jiang Yi-huah on Friday said Taiwan will not accept Beijing’s offer of “one country, two systems,’’.
“Taiwan has never accepted the `one country, two systems’ offer,’’ Jiang told lawmakers at a legislative meeting.
According to the report, Chinese President Xi Jinping brushed off an old formula to define how China intends to deal with “the Taiwan issue,’’ reiterating that Beijing would have no tolerance for Taiwan independence.
China has claimed sovereignty over self-ruled Taiwan since 1949, when Nationalists fled to the island after losing the Chinese civil war.

Taiwan’s Minister for the Mainland Affairs Council, Wang Yu-chi, said at the legislative meeting that Xi’s comments reflected Beijing’s long-term guiding principles.
“However, this is the first time for Xi to highlight them.
“We certainly do not agree with them,’’ he added.
Wang said that he would express Taiwan’s stance at an “appropriate’’ occasion.
However, Kuan Bi-ling, an opposition lawmaker of the Democratic Progressive Party, asked Wang to clearly communicate Taiwan’s concerns to Beijing.
The council said in a statement that Taiwan maintained the status quo across the Taiwan Strait based on its “three notes’’ policy: “no unification, no independence and no use of force.’’ (dpa/NAN)
