Ikeja – A 24-year-old tenant, Mohammed Ajah, was on Friday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly preventing his landlady from entering the house.
Ajah, whose reside at No. 1 Oshinaga St., Oke-Ira, Ogba in Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of assault and breach of public peace.
The prosecution alleged the accused, who is a motorcyclist, assaulted one Mrs Franca Enweke, by pushing her from the shoulder, thereby sustaining bruises on her right fingers, following an unresolved differences.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Michael Unah, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 28, 2018 at about 10.30 p. m., at their residence.
Unah said the accused conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by violently threatening the complainant.
“The accused packed his motorcycle at the entrance of the complainant’s house.
“He blocked the entrance and prevented the complainant from entering the house with her car.
“This led into an argument between them. In the process, the accused pushed the complainant and she landed on the ground,’’ he said.
The offences contravened Sections 173 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, (Revised)
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 173 stipulates three years imprisonment for offenders.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Fashola said the surety must be gainfully employed with evidence of two years’ tax payments to the Lagos State Government and have his address verified by the court.
He adjourned the case until Feb. 18 for mention.
