Lagos – A 34-year-old barman, Lukman Korede, was on Thursday docked before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged attempt to steal by altering the direction of a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera.
Korede, a resident of 10, Agoro St., Mushin, Lagos State, is facing a charge of attempted theft.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP Ben Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb.2 at 5:36 p.m., at the Maison Fahrenheit Hotel on Victoria Island, Lagos State.
He said that the defendant, a bar man at the hotel located at 80, Adetokunbo Ademola St.,Victoria Island, allegedly attempted to steal by changing the position of the CCTV camera.
“The defendant, who was on duty on the said date, climbed the roof top of the hotel to tamper with the CCTV camera directed at the bar to enable him carry out his unlawful intentions.
“The chief security officer saw Korede change the direction of the camera to face up instead of the bar to prevent it from capturing his activities,” he alleged.
Ekundayo said that the offence contravened Section 21 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate, Mrs A.M. Olumide-Fusika, granted the defendant N20,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Feb.17 for mention.
