Sofia – Bulgarian Minister of Tourism, Stela Baltova, on Wednesday, said Bulgaria would make tourism a national cause because of its importance to the economy.
Baltova said at the opening ceremony of the 34th edition of the international tourist fair Holiday & SPA Expo that tourism sector had the greatest impact on other sectors in Bulgaria.
He added that it had the potential to give the highest growth in Gross Domestic Product.
Bulgarian Caretaker Prime Minister, Ognyan Gerdjikov, who also attended the ceremony, said 2016 was extremely fruitful for Bulgarian tourism.
He added that “over eight million foreign tourists visited the country and revenues from international tourism exceeded six billion BGN (about 3.2 billion dollars).
These great results were due primarily to the beautiful nature of Bulgaria and increasingly better use of natural resources, Gerdjikov said.
The three-day expo gathered more than 350 exhibitors.
