Lagos – An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Tuesday sentenced a 28-year-old unemployed man, Emmanuel Ahmed, to one year imprisonment for stealing a motorcycle and a handset valued at N317, 000.
The convict, whose residential address was not given, had on Dec. 7, while being arraigned, pleaded guilty to a count charge of stealing.
The Magistrate, Mr Y. O. Arolambo, who handed down the verdict, sentenced Ahmed without an option of fine.
The magistrate found the convict guilty as charged and sentenced him to one year imprisonment after listening to the review of facts by the Prosecutor, Sgt. Friday Mameh.
He said that the sentence would take effect from the date of arraignment.
Mameh, however, told the court that the facts were as stated in the charge sheet.
He said that the convict committed the offence on Sept. 8, at 10 a.m, at No. 1, Sibiri Irochie St., Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
The prosecutor said that the convict stole a Q-link Motorcycle with registration No. FST 617 QE valued at N300, 000 and a Nokia phone worth N17, 000, belonging to the complainant, Mrs Gold Ukolu.
Mameh said that the convict stole the said motorcycle while it was parked at the complainant’s compound.
The prosecutor said that the convict made a confessional statement that he stole the motorcycle and the phone but had sold the items.
Mameh tendered the convict’s confessional statement and it was admitted in evidence.
He said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
