Kano – The Wheat Farmers Association of Nigeria (WFAN), Kano State, says it has secured N50 million soft loan from the state government to buy additional seeds for distribution to its members.
The state WFAN Chairman, Alhaji Faruk Rabiu, disclosed this at the commencement of the distribution of the seeds to the farmers in Kano on Friday.
He said the association sought the support of the state government to enable all its members across the state access the commodity.
“The number of farmers who registered with the association has doubled, compared to what we had last year.
“We have to go to the state government to seek for the loan, if all our registered members are to get the seeds in this irrigation season,” he said.
Rabi’u commended Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje for supporting the association and promised to ensure prompt payment of the loan.
He said the association procured 120 tonnes of seeds for distribution to members who had yet to get the commodity.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Hajiya Talatu Rabi’u, said the state government would continue to support farmers to boost food production.
“The present administration is committed to supporting farmers in the state in view of the importance it attaches to the sector,“ she said.
