Iseyin (Oyo State) – A mother of two, Mrs Ibidun Akinbola, on Tuesday sought the order of a Grade C” Customary Court, sitting in Iseyin, Oyo State for the dissolution of her four-year old marriage to Samuel Akinbola over alleged parental irresponsibility.
The complainant told the court that the marriage was contracted four years ago in accordance with the native law and customs of the land.
She, however, alleged that the respondent, who she said could not meet all of the requirements demanded by her family had reneged on all his promises to “my family.
“He was presented with list of what he has to provide as customs and tradition demand but he failed to bring all and promised to do so later, including the money involved.
“Since then, he has not found it necessary to fulfil his promises; instead, he is busy going round different brothels with series of ladies.
“He does not perform his responsibilities as a father to our two children and gallivants round Iseyin town.
“ I want this marriage dissolved, my Lord,” Ibidun pleaded with the court.
In his ruling, the President of the Court, Chief Adelodun Raheem, frowned at the continued absence of the respondent in court in spite of repeated summons served on him.
Raheem ordered that another court summon be served on him and pasted around his residence for the later time and adjourned the case until Oct.23 for the husband to appear in court to state his version of the case.
