Lagos – Actions will resume on Saturday in the ongoing Lagos State Youth Alive Basketball League (YABL) with 21 matches taking place across the three centres in the Week 5 of the competition.
In the U-12 category, Deepbond Academy hopes to win against River Dragons Academy to consolidate on their performance so far having won three games in the league.
Deepbond, who defeated Wildcat 25-2 in their last match, are by far the best team in the category and could make Rivers Dragons with just one win look ordinary when they clash.
The matches among four other U-12 matches take place at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Complex, Yaba.
In the U-16 category, Topfield will keep a date with Rangers and with both teams tied on three wins so far in the competition, it is expected to be a well contested affair.
In the U-19 boys’ category, defending champions, Raptors will clash with Dell Basketball at the Ilupeju Basketball Complex.
Tagged match of the day because both teams have a history of rivalry and quality players that play with a lot of ego and fans support that has brought praises to the youth league.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Meanwhile, in the U-19 girls’ category, Hope 4 Girls will slug it out with Raptors at the Mobolaji Sports Complex, Yaba, as Rookies take on Diamond at the Ikeja Sports Complex.
The Coordinator of the league, Gbade Olatona, told the News agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the target of the competition was to expose the young players to competition.
“We are very pleased with the level of competition so far; the youth are enjoying the games and are improving on their ball skills game after game.
“The coaches also deserve a lot of praises for being able to teach the players the rudiments of the game and discipline during play.
“In the long run, the aim of the league is just to give the players the opportunity to play in a league and not to impress a must win situation on their minds,’’ Olatona said. (NAN)
