2 docked over unlawful possession of firearms

IKEJA – Two men, Kayode Aweninuola, 29, and Azeez Adebayo, 28,on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, charged with unlawful possession of firearms.

Aweninuola, a land speculator and Adebayo, a commercial motorcyclist, were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.

They reside at No. 13, Ire Akari St., Oke Eletu, Ikorodu, Lagos, and No. 6, Iyana Coker Road, Ifo, Ogun State, respectively.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Chinalo Uwadione, told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 20, at 8.15 p.m., at Meiran, Lagos.[eap_ad_2]

He said that the accused unlawfully had in their possession a pistol without authority to carry such.

The prosecutor said, “The accused concealed the pistol in a video machine to deceive the police and evade arrest.”

According to Uwadione, the offences contravene Sections 51 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The law prescribes between 14 and 20 years imprisonment for anyone found liable of being in unlawful possession of firearms.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The Magistrate, Mrs Margaret Dan-Oni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to Sept. 9 for mention. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
