Makurdi – The General Manager, Benue Environmental and Sanitation Agency (BENSESA), Mr Ediga Akpa, says additional dump site will be created across the state to facilitate waste management.
Akpa disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Makurdi.
He said the additional dump sites would facilitate effective discharge of the agency’s duties as well as enhance compliance with sanitation laws.
He said the present dump sites at North bank, Gboko road and Naka road were inadequate.
Akpa attributed the indiscriminate refuse heaps in Makurdi to ongoing evacuation of drains and gutters by his men.
According to him the evacuation will allow for the free flow of drains in the city and prevent flood.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“The exercise has enhanced the agency’s performance especially in the evacuation of wastes,” he said.
He, however, called on government to purchase new compactor facilities for the effective clearing of refuse in the state.
Akpa warned those dumping wastes indiscriminately to refrain from it or face the wrath of the law.
He assured that the agency would do its best to execute its mandate by keeping the state clean.
Akpa lamented the indiscriminate dumping wastes directly in drains and gutters, saying it was hampering the work of evacuation during the wet season and could lead to flooding.
He, however, commended residents for complying with sanitation laws, pointing out that the agency had fewer arrests these days compared to last year. (NAN)
