LAFIA – Gov. Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State was on Wednesday honoured with Leadership Politician Award of the year by the Leadership Newspapers.
According to him, “I am dedicating this prestigious Leadership Politician of the Year Award to the people of Nasarawa State for their steadfastness and support, despite the challenges thrown on our path in the last four years.”
Almakura restated his resolve to be in the vanguard for the masses.
The governor said he was humbled by his choice for the award, adding that he was threatened with impeachment in his first year in office and weathered eight other impeachment moves by the state assembly in the past four years.
Mr. Durojaiye Hassan, who represented LEADERSHIP Newspapers at the event, lauded Almakura’s doggedness and commitment to the course of the common man in line with President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari’s doctrine of change.

“Having carefully navigated the political environment, you decided to be on the part of people who have been deprived of their legitimate rights in social distribution of amenities.
“By so doing, you have made Nasarawa State the fertile ground for the emergence of new social order and political awareness that gives rights to the poor, the peasant, women and the deprived.”
“You have been the leading salesman of the new social order as scripted by Buhari as `Buhari Doctrine’ which the entire country has keyed into.
This has lead to the political tsunami that has ushered in a new dawn in our democratic experiment intent upon good governance” he added.
Almakura was also presented with Most Outstanding Governor Award by the Chairman and Editor-In-Chief of Trail Newspapers, Mr. Inuwa Bwala. (NAN)
