Lagos – The Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) on Tuesday in Lagos expressed its readiness to reinforce and sanitize the industry in the country.
Alhaji Garba Kankarofi, the Registrar of the council, who disclosed this at a news briefing, said this would make the industry capable of competing with its peers internationally.
Kankarofi added that it would also help the council to upgrade its service delivery having observed that the advertising eco-system was changing for the better.
He said that the advertising industry needed to pace-up with the media industry in the face of the rapid growing technology globally.
” Over the years, we have exerted a lot of energies and attentions in living up to our mandate and the expectations of our various stakeholders, even, in the face of daunting challenges.
” We have managed to deal with identified challenges through various forms of partnerships and collaborations which have helped us achieve the level of success we have recorded to-date,” he said.
Earlier, Mr Benjamin Pius, the Chief Executive Officer of BSP Media International, a London-based consulting firm, said that his firm and APCON would hold a two-day summit slated for July 7 and July 8 in Lagos.
Pius said that the summit was to educate various stakeholders in the industry on emerging trends relating to advertising practices and standards
He explained that this was pertinent so that the stakeholders in the industry would meet up with international standard and be abreast of global changes.
Pius said that, ‘‘BSP Media International specialises in providing quality market, industry information and services which meet up with the emerging marketing trend of the world.
”The summit comes up on the background of the transformation of global advertising industry brought about by rapid changes in technology, consumer behaviour and various dynamics in the global and local economies.
” It will also showcase the advances and emerging trends in marketing communication practices and standards, explore the relationship between current and future media platforms,’’
He said that international experts such as: Michael Theodore (US), Dr Oliver Gray (Belgium) and Josiah Kimanzi (Nigeria) would speak at the summit.
