Yankari – The Bauchi State Government on Wednesday inaugurated a committee of traditional rulers, in a bid to boost access to healthcare in the grassroots.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the committee, tagged “Emirates Committee on Health’’ was inaugurated in Yankari, near Bauchi after a two-day orientation.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Halima Mukaddas, while inaugurating the committee, said the formation of the body would promote maternal and child heath.
Mukaddas said the committee would be used for various interventions in the health sector to strengthen the sector.
She said the orientation was organised for members of the committee for them to brainstorm on health issues in line with the five-point health agenda, formulated by the State Government.
Commissioner for Local Governments Alhaji Samaila Isa lauded the government for constituting the committee.
He observed that the scope of the committee was wide, urging members to put in their best to excel.
Adamu Gamawa, Executive Chairman of the state’s Primary Health Care Development Agency, said the work of the committee was not limited to immunisation but included primary health care related issues.
The Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Usman Othman, commended the government for constituting the committee to make traditional rulers contribute to heath development.
Othman said that traditional and religious leaders were key players in all facets of human endeavour, hence the need to include them in health care delivery.
He assured that the committee would do it best on immunisation and other health-related issues.
The committee members are Alhaji Nuhu Wabi, District Head of Jama’are, Alhaji Lele Mukthar; District Head of Madara and Alhaji Mohammed Mohammed, District Head of Nasaru.
Others are Alhaji Bala Ahmed, Chief Iman of Bauchi, Alhaji Sale Mohammed, District Head of Jalam and Alhaji Nasiru Othman, District Head of Gital. (NAN)
