Hauwa Indimi, the daughter of billionaire, Mohammed Indinmi has expressed her frustration on social media regarding the escalating prices of food items in the nation.
Through her Instagram account on Tuesday, the cosmetologist shared a picture of a small basket containing tomatoes, which she revealed had been purchased for N8,000 in Abuja.
Hauwa conveyed her ongoing dissatisfaction by stating, “I sent my people to the market, and this is what N8k gets you for tomatoes as of Monday. Still not over it.”
As a consequence of the exorbitant cost of tomatoes, it has come to light that certain housewives in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have ceased using tomatoes for preparing stews and other sauces due to the surge in prices.
Additionally, some residents have resorted to alternative ingredients such as garden eggplants and carrots to make their stews.
They have discovered that garden eggplants, referred to as ‘ganyen gauta’ in Hausa, ‘igba’ in Yoruba, and ‘anyara’ in Igbo, can effectively substitute tomatoes when combined with rice.
Furthermore, other individuals have mentioned that they are exploring the usage of pumpkin, pawpaw, or traditional soups like white soup and palm fruit soup, commonly known as banga, as substitutes for tomato-based stews.
