ABUJA – Mr Joseph Anebi, new Controller-General, Federal Fire Service, (FFS), has advised Nigerians to imbibe basic fire safety tips to save lives and property during fire outbreaks.
Anebi gave the advice on Wednesday in Abuja while addressing newsmen shortly after his decoration along with his counterpart in the Nigerian Prisons Service, Dr Peter Ekpendu, by the Minister of Interior, Mr Abba Morro.
According to him, the citizens need to learn the first aid fire safety tips so as to minimise losses before the arrival of trained fire fighters.
“We will increase our sensitisation to the general public through various channels of communication so that members of the public can help to save more lives during fire outbreak.
“ I urge members of the public to pay attention to fire safety tips whenever they come across it on radio, television and other legitimate media.
“ People need to be very careful in the way they handle fire issues, especially during the dry season.
“ All the necessary first aid fire safety equipment need to be kept in place so that they can immediately attack fire outbreaks before they go out of control, “ Anebi said.
On the compliance with the National Fire Safety Code, Anebi said: “ We have enforcement unit which goes round to ensure that members of the public comply with the fire safety code directive.
“Appropriate measures will be taken with defaulters of this federal government directive,” he said. (NAN)
