Court sentences 5 tricycle riders to 1 month in prison for traffic violation

ABUJA – An Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced five tricycle riders to one month in prison each for traffic violation.

The convicts are Kasim Shally, 28; Mustapher Joralfan, 21; Yusuf Mohammed, 25; Lawal Ibrahim, 20 and Babangida Kabir, all of Gwarinpa village.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Idayat Akanni, sentenced the four convicts after they all pleaded guilty to the charge.

She, however, gave each of the convicts an option to pay N1, 000 as fine.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Mr Salihu Mohammed, had told the court that the convicts were arrested for traffic violation at the 4th Avenue, Gwarimpa highway in Abuja.

.Mohammed said the offence contravened Section 194 of the Penal Code Law.

The law prescribes two years imprisonment or fine for any offender if convicted.(NAN)
