LAGOS – The Head Coach of the National Deaf Football Team, Kamiludeen Oladimeji, on Friday attributed the postponement of the West Africa Deaf Football Championship to the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in some countries.
The championship, earlier scheduled to hold in Togo in August, will now take place from Nov. 5 to Nov. 10. [eap_ad_1] The World Health Organisation said that 2,622 people had so far died from the dreadful virus in some West African countries.
“The 4th edition of the deaf football competition has been postponed because of the outbreak of Ebola virus disease in some parts of West Africa.
“Other sporting competitions have been postponed due to the outbreak of the disease; we believed that the postponement is a good decision in order to curb the spread of the virus.
“We are praying and hopeful that the virus would have been contained before the new date of the competition,’’ he said.
Oladimeji, however, said that the postponement would not deter the players from adequately preparing for the competition.
“The players are determined to do the nation proud at the competition; the postponement will not deter them in any way from doing well in Togo.
“They are well committed; I want to assure Nigerians that the players will not relent in their efforts to excel,’’ he said.
NAN reports that Nigeria has won the three previous editions of the championship. (NAN)
