LAGOS – A Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday sentenced an estate agent, Gbolahan Adeyemi, to 12 hours of community service for defrauding an accommodation seeker of N100, 000.

Adeyemi had pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs Salama Matepo, who handed down the verdict, said the community service should be supervised by an official of the court.

Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Austin Orji, had told the court that the offence was committed sometime in June 2013 at Happy Land Estate, Ajah, Lagos.

Orji said Adeyemi collected N100, 000 from one Felix Achief with a promise to secure a room for him at an apartment but failed to do so.

“Achief was taken to an apartment under construction and was asked to pay N100, 000, toward the completion of the house.’’

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. (NAN)
