Abuja – The Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF) on Wednesday it had postponed its National Super League earlier scheduled to begin this weekend in Abuja due to lack of sponsorship.
Austine Balewa, Secretary-General of the federation, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the federation had tentatively fixed July 4 or July 11 as new dates.
He said the possibility of the new dates becoming a reality now depended on the availability of a sponsor or sponsors.
“We hope to get sponsors before the end of June to enable us hold the event in July,’’ the NHF secretary-general said.
Balewa also said shifting the event to July would now ensure that the Muslim fasting period would not affect the competition.
He further said the federation’s National League 1, earlier scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt in June, would now commence in July before the Super League in Abuja.
The NHF official however hinted that the federation board was contemplating moving the Super League to Kaduna instead of its proposed host city of Abuja.(NAN)
