Imo orders mechanics to leave Owerri township

OWERRI – The Imo State has directed mechanics operating within Owerri, the Imo capital, to relocate to Orji and Nekede mechanics villages, a statement said on Monday.

A statement signed by Mr Kennedy Amanze, the Public Relations of the of Industry and Non-formal Sector, said the Commissioner, Mrs Ugochi Nnanna-Okoro, gave the directive in Owerri.

The statement said that the two weeks grace period given the mechanics had expired and that the task force set up by the to enforce compliance the order would soon begin work.

The statement  frowned at a situation whereby abandoned vehicles were parked along the streets.

It noted that all over the world, artisans were located in clusters outside the city centre, adding that the relocation of mechanics in the interest of the mechanics.
