Lagos – The perennial problem of power supply that has often crippled services at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, will soon be over, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Christopher Bode, has said.
Bode made the assertion on Thursday in Lagos while conducting correspondents of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) round some of the ongoing projects in the hospital.
The projects include a Power Plant and an ultra-modern Modular Theatre.
He told NAN that the hospital was working on its Power Plant that would provide uninterrupted power supply to the health facility.
“We are constructing 3.4 megawatts Power Plant that will provide uninterrupted power supply to the hospital. It will be powered by gas which will be provided by Undo Nigeria Plc.
“The power plant is at completion level; we are only waiting for gas supply for it to be running,’’ he said.
On the Modular Theatre, the CMD said that the facility, constructed about 40 years ago was undergoing refurbishment.
Bode disclosed that the theatre was about 70 per cent completed.
NAN reports that a modular operating theatre consists of wall and ceiling panels, interior doors and windows and all vital life-saving equipment.
The system is designed to have operating theatres, recovery and treatment rooms in which high sanitary and hygienic standards are required.

Bode said that the modular theatre, the second best in Africa behind South Africa, was not functioning to capacity, hence the refurbishment.
“Through this modular theatre, we want to create a seamless service whereby our patients get qualitative healthcare which will stamp out medical tourism.
“Should we have the massive real estate and still be suffering? We cannot continue to complain all the year without looking inward to solve our problems.
“We need to reposition ourselves to solve the problems of the country from within,’’ he said. (NAN)
