Man docked for allegedly stealing Nokia phone

MARARABA – The Police Monday arraigned Mr Akpla Simon of Deeper Junction Mararaba, , in a Mararaba Chief Magistrates’ Court for stealing a Nokia phone worth N12,000.

Simon is facing a two-count charge of trespass and theft, contrary section 349 and 288 of the Penal Code.

Section  349 stipulates that whoever commits criminal trespass shall be imprisoned for a term which extend one year or with fine of N100 or both.

Section 288 also stipulates that whoever commits theft shall be  imprisoned for a term which extend seven years or with fine or both.

Mr James Ahua, the police , told the court that June 5 and at about 6.30 a.m., one Sandra Chi of Gidan Bera, Mararaba, reported the case to the police.

Ahua said the plaintiff told the police that the accused, of the same address with the plaintiff, entered her room and stole her Nokia Asha phone valued at  N12,000.

Ahua alleged that effort by neighbours to the phone the accused proved abortive.

Simon, had no to defend him in the court, denied the charges and Ahua appealed to the court not to accept his application.

He said granting the accused would hamper the police .

The presiding officer, Mr Habila Abundaga, however, granted the ’s pleas and directed the accused to be remanded in prison until June 30. (NAN)
