Idah, (Kogi) -The Kogi Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development on Saturday sensitised the people of ldah Local Government Area on vulnerability to HIV/AIDs in the state.
The awareness programme, conducted by a team of medical officers from the ministry, was to enlighten people in active sex age bracket on ways to prevent contracting the disease.
The team leader, Mrs Roseline Alabi, educated the participants on the importance of the use of the condom, advising the women to always guide their men in the use.
Alabi said that the use of condom by men would prevent women from getting infections and help in keeping their marriages safe and long lasting.
She urged the women to always visit the salon with their own needles, not minding what the hairdressers would say, to reduce their chances of contracting the disease.
“Both men and women should always visit the salon with their own equipment, avoid unprotected sex, be faithful to their spouses and ensure that donated blood is screened before transfusion,’’ she said.
In his remark, a leader of the community, Alhaji Salihu Momoh, commended the group for the sensitisation and the lifesaving programme, which, he said, would impact on their lives.
He also thanked Gov. Idris Wada and his wife Halima Wada for their parental roles adding that they would pass on what they learnt to other members of the community.
Momoh charged women to utilise the opportunity given to them by the programme to enlighten their husbands on the prevention of HIV/AIDs in the area. (NAN)
