Lagos – The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) says it has completed a skill acquisition training for contestants in the 2016 Miss Nigeria Beauty Competition.
Mr Fidelis Anosike, the Publisher of Daily Times, the founder of Miss Nigeria Beauty Competition, said this in Lagos on Monday.
He said that the essence of the training was to equip contestants with various skills that could make them better representatives of the nation.
“The Miss Nigeria pageantry is not only about good looks or intelligence, but about being a young lady who is creative and who can contribute to self and national development through a skill.
“One of them will be finally crowned Miss Nigeria on Monday, but all of them are winners because they have all made efforts to win, therefore should return home better.
“The training is a short one on industrial garment construction and the essence is to expose the ladies to the world of skill acquisition, instead of just the academic qualification or looks,” he said.
Mrs Vanessa Ogida, the Project Manager of Miss Nigeria Organisation said that the 2016 edition involved trainings in make up and fashion designing
She said the fashion training was beyond micro or small scale establishment but for industrial scale production where one operator could employ up to 50 people at a time given adequate resources.
Mr Babatunde Faleke, the Lagos Zonal Coordinator of NEPC said that the council would take back the first 10 contestants who were interested in taking further education in the skill.
He said that the contestants were important prospective ambassadors of the country and should be made to contribute to economic development by acquiring a skill to create jobs for youths like them.
