ADO-EKITI – The Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC) on Monday submitted the result of Saturday’s referendum it conducted to the State Assembly.
The commission conducted the referendum as part of conditions to meet in the creation of the proposed 18 new Local Government Development Areas.
The commission’s Chairman, Mrs Bosede Adelusi, who submitted the result to the Assembly, said there was nothing wrong with the initiative, contrary to claims by the opposition.
She said having submitted the result to the State Assembly, “the bill was now in the custody of the House to debate and take further action.’’[eap_ad_2]
Receiving the result, the Speaker, Dr Adewale Omirin, said the Assembly would accord it accelerated debate and passage.
Omirin, who commended the commission for doing a good job, said the Kayode Fayemi administration meant well for the people in its resolve to ensure good governance.
He referred the document to the Ad hoc Committee on Local Government Creation of the House for action.
The Ad hoc Committee Chairman, who is also the Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr Taiwo Orisalade, promised to study the result of the referendum promptly.
He said that the position of the lawmakers would be referred to the whole House for debate before taking a final decision.
Adelusi had earlier at a news conference on Sunday announced the detailed result of the referendum.(NAN)[eap_ad_3]
