Kano – A Non-governmental Organisation, PG105, on Friday organised a sensitisation talk for students Kano Capital Girls Secondary School, Magwan, Kano State on the dangers of drug abuse and premarital sex among youths.
Speaking at the event, the founder of the NGO, Hajiya Maryam Chaskda, expressed concern on the rampant cases of rape, teenage sex and drug abuse among youths and advised young people to abstain from the menace.
“The danger of teenage sex is that once you start it now, you may hardly stop it, therefore there is the need to avoid anything that can lead you to such acts.
“It can lead you to unwanted pregnancy, and also there is all the possibility for you to be infected with any of the sexually transmitted diseases like HIV/AIDS, gonorrhea, syphilis and so on,” Chaskda said.
According to her, drug abuse can cause serious damage to health, especially the brain, resulting in abnormal behavior among family, friends and other associates.
She said that most parents have failed in their responsibility of allowing their children to confide in them and urged parents to get close to their children so as to understand their personal challenges.
“Don’t succumb to any boyfriend’s pressure to have sex with you to prove the love you have for him, the man only want to taste you, run away after, leaving you heartbroken.
“And with that you have lost your dignity and a sense of reasoning because he would not get married to you, and if he eventually does, he will never trust or respect you,” she warned the teenage girls.
According to her, “sex and drugs destroy one’s life and I am sure it’s not your life ambition to be in rehabilitation home when your school mates are in the universities.”
Addressing the students, Commanding Officer (Nursing), 465 Nigerian Air Force Hospital, Kano, Wing Commander, MA Atang, said that the talk came at a time when the issue of rape, teenage sex and drug abuse had become prevalent among youths.
