Lagos – One Musa Ahmed, who identified himself as a street urchin, on Wednesday appeared before Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court III in Lagos State, charged with constituting himself into a nuisance at the Sabo Market.
Ahmed was accused of unlawfully removing a barrier constructed to curtail theft at the market.
The accused, whose occupation and address were not given, was also alleged to have conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace at the market.
Ahmed, 20, was docked over charges bordering on unlawful conduct before Magistrate Bola Olagbegi-Adelabu.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
According to the police prosecutor, Mary Ajiteru, the accused committed the offences on Feb. 8, at 11.00 p.m., at the Sabo Market.
She alleged that Ahmed removed a barrier constructed by the Sabo Market Union, to prevent thieves from entering the market’s compound.
“He committed the unlawful act at night when nobody will see him; his action caused a breach of the peace at the market as there was so much confusion after it was discovered,” the prosecutor said.
According to Ajiteru, the accused contravened Section 166(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
The magistrate admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one `responsible’ surety, and adjourned the case till Feb. 23, for mention. (NAN)
