SOKOTO – Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, Speaker of the House of Representatives, elected as Sokoto State governorship candidate of APC, says he will give priority attention to education, agriculture and youth empowerment if elected in 2015.
The speaker had won the primary ticket by garnering 3,466 votes.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tambuwal beat four other aspirants, including the incumbent Senator representing Sokoto South zone, Sen. Dahiru Tambuwal (APC-Sokoto) who scored only 23 votes.
The results were announced by the Chairman of the four-man electoral panel, Mr Khalil Bolaji.
Bolaji stated that the total number of delegates was 3,569 while the number of votes cast stood at 3,513.
The electoral panel chairman said that there were 3,503 valid votes with 10 invalid ones.
Bolaji, while congratulating Tambuwal, expressed happiness with the peaceful conduct of the polls, orderliness of the delegates and other members of the party.
Tambuwal, however, expressed delight in the confidence reposed in him by the members of the APC.
The speaker extolled the leadership qualities of Gov. Aliyu Wamakko for the party and the people of the state.
Tambuwal described the elections as transparent and peaceful, and commended the members of the electoral panel for diligently conducting the exercise.
He promised to continue with the programmes and policies of Wamakko, if elected as the governor in 2015.(NAN)
