Lagos – A 40-year-old travel agent, Frederick Owolere, was on Friday brought before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over allegations of forgery and obtaining under false pretences.
The accused, who resides at Ikorodu Area of Lagos, is standing trial on a three-count charge of forgery, obtaining by false pretences and unlawful possession.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Roman Unuigbe, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Aug. 30, 2015 at No. 552, Ikorodu Road, Lagos.
Unuigbe said that the accused paraded himself as Chief Executive Officer and President of Insist Travels and Tours Ltd. with intention to defraud one Nike Idowu.
He said that the accused, who was in possession of a forged identity card, defrauded Idowu of the sum of N1.1 million after posing as a tourist and travel agent.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 312, 315 and 361 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 312 prescribes seven years imprisonment for anyone found guilty of obtaining by false pretences.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr P.A. Ojo, granted the accused N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till June 1 for substantive trial. (NAN)
