Kano – The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) says it is committed to protecting lives and properties of consumers through massive enlightenment campaign against sub-standard products.
The Director General of the agency, Mr Osita Aboloma made the remark at meeting with some stakeholders in Kano.
NAN reports that Aboloma was represented at the occasion by Alhaji Yunusa Mohammed, the Coordinator of SON for Kano and Jigawa State Command.
He said the meeting was aimed at sensitising the stakeholders on SON’s Act 2015 and zero tolerance campaign against sub-standard products.
Oboloma said the SON Act has certain unique provision towards ensuring that a level playing field is created for manufacturers, importers, traders, exporters and product end-users.
He, however, stressed the need for diligent prosecution of cases at law courts involving sub-standard product dealers as well as to discourage long and endless adjournments that made suspects at times go scot free.
In his remarks, the Vice President, Manufacturing Association of Nigeria (MAN), Alhaji Ali Magudu said the general public should safe-guard the use of standardised and high quality products.
Also speaking a lecturer at Bayero University Kano, Usman Zunnurain, said that SON Act relates to monitoring and enforcement on sub-standard products.
He said compliance with the Act would go a long way towards the elimination of sub-standard and counterfeited products from the markets.(NAN)
