Abuja – Two new records have been broken at the on going 11th Biennial Police Games taking place at the National Stadium, Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kefas Williams of Zone 4 command and Uju Anolifu of Zone 2, broke the existing records in the men’s 10,000 metres event and shot-put for women respectively.

Williams crossed the finishing line in time of 32.34.23 to shatter the record of 35.18.97 created by Z. Wabi in 2008, while Anolifu smashed the shot-put record of 13.52 metres of J. Nex, in 1990.
Datreng Luka and John Yakubu of the Zone 3 police command returned in time of 34.19.94 and 34.26.14 seconds to win silver and bronze respectively in the men’s 10,000 metres.
There were also remarkable results in other events as Akomolafe Ademola from the Zone 11 command breasted the tape 10.86 seconds to snatch the men’s 100 metres gold.
Briggs Tamunotonye of Zone 7 concluded his race 10.78 seconds to win the men’s 100 silver, while Oladimeji Toyin of Zone 11 won the bronze 10.83 seconds.
In the 100 metres women, Thomas Goodness of the Force Headquarters won gold after crossing the finishing line in 12.37 seconds, while Nkiruka Onuejizu and Abibatu Yusuf of Zone 6 won silver and bronze respectively.
Force Headquarters also wrote its name in gold after Abimbola Lawal and Tosin Ogedengbe won the 100 metres hurdles women and 110 metres hurdles men in 14.96 seconds and 14.20 seconds respectively.
While Lawal took the women’s hurdles top prize, Iyoha Juliet of Zone 5 clinched the silver in 17.85 seconds, while Kasarachi Nzerem of Zone 9 bagged the bronze in 19.84 seconds.
Just like in the women’s hurdles event, Zone 5’s Ogieriakhi Martins won the silver, while Anyadike Udodiri of the Zone 9 went home with the bronze.
Tosin Ogendegbe also made Force Headquarters proud after he won the 400 metres low hurdles men in 53.46 seconds, while Zone 9’s Okoro Chukwuagozie and Anyadike Udodiri were left with silver and bronze respectively.
The women 400 metres hurdles saw Funke Ogunbamise and Comfort Ekanem making it double for Zone 2 command as they clinched the gold and silver medals after finishing the event on 60.63 and 61.27 seconds respectively.
Toyin Adeyori won the women 400 metres hurdles bronze in 66.23 seconds.
Just like Zone 2 in the women 400 hurdles event, Zone 11 snatched first and second positions in the long jump men as Bamigbose Olorunwa and Oladimeji Toyin jumped to 7.07 seconds and 6.50 seconds respectively.
Victor Oguche was the bronze winner in the men’s long jump with a finishing time of 6.16 seconds.
NAN reports that 23 events have been concluded at the Games which are part of activities the 2016 Police Week.
Twenty-eight sports, including Athletics, Badminton, football, Swimming, Boxing, Chess, Cycling and Taekwando, are featuring at the 11th Police Games which started on Saturday and will end this Saturday.
Defending champions Force Headquarters have won the Games 10 times and are on the verge of retaining the title going by the performance of its athletes at the ongoing event. (NAN)
