OMU-ARAN (KWARA) – Mr Mikahil Bello, the Unit Head, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″] (IBEDC), Omu-Aran Business District in Kwara, on Friday lamented the continued closure of commercial banks in the area.
Bello told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area, that the [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]closure of the banks over a year ago was hindering the company from meeting its revenue target.
NAN reports that the robbery attacks in the area in May 2013, which resulted in the killing of three people, had forced the banks to close indefinitely.

He said the development had remained a source of concern to the company, urging the authorities of the [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]banks to consider re-opening their branches in the interest of the community.
“The closure is not only affecting our monthly income target but also our numerous consumers who have to travel a long distance to Ilorin to pay their electricity bills.
“Most of these consumers are forced to reduce the amount initially intended for payment due to the cost incurred in transportation and other contingencies.
“Some of the consumers also hide under the guise of non availability of the banks to avoid payment of bills, a development hindering our target,” Bello said.
He said that in spite of the challenges posed by the closure of the banks, the company had evolved an effective mechanism to sustain uninterrupted electricity supply to the district.
Bello attributed the district’s achievements to prompt and adequate electricity transmission and supply of materials by the company’s head office in Ibadan.
The Unit Head, who disclosed that the rate of vandalism within the district had reduced drastically, urged the communities to protect the company’s transformer to ensure maximum protection of its facilities.
“With the continued support and assistance of our headquarters in Ibadan, we would continue to do our best to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to the district,” he said. (NAN)
