Abuja – The Commandant of the National Defence College, Rear Adm. Samuel Alade, on Wednesday urged course 24 participants to portray the image of the military in good light.
Alade made the call during a lecture at the college’s headquarters in Abuja.
He thanked the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) for the lecture and said it would go a long way in assisting the participants in their future carrier.
“ It is my pleasure to draw from the CDS’s wealth of experience and a new leadership approach in carrying out our professional duties.
“ I have no doubt in my mind that such a wonderful lecture will go a long way in assisting the participants in their carrier,’’ Alade said.
He urged them to be good leaders since they had been lectured on almost everything about leadership role.
The commandant said that It was now their turn to find solutions to complex situations as military personnel in order to move forward as leaders.
“A competent leader can get efficient service from poor tools, while a non-competent leader cannot do same thing,’’ he said.
Alade reminded them that leadership was all about self discipline, hard work, dedication and good character.
“Course 24 is very very lucky for the greater opportunity they enjoyed all through.
“In a short while, we will be hosting the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will be at the graduation ceremony of the college,’’ he said.
In his remarks, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, urged the participants to work hard and be dedicated.
“In the military actually what we do is to ensure that we secure the environment and the environment is occupied by the civil populace.
“So, we need their confidence, in ensuring that this is achieved and we need them also in whatever we are doing, we do it right.
“That is why in my lecture I talked about continuing to work toward that, so that we can earn the confidence of the populace,’’ Olonisakin said.
He reminded the participants about the modern aspect of leadership which he said must also cut across three areas: strategic, operational and tactical.(NAN)
